Erasmus+ placements in Lisbon kindergartens, language schools and after-school centres for European early childhood and childcare students.
In Portugal, early childhood provision is split into creche (0 to 3 years) and educação pré-escolar in a jardim de infância (3 to 6 years), followed by primary school. Kindergartens follow national curriculum guidelines for pre-school education, which centre on play, personal and social development, language and the arts.
Working in a Lisbon kindergarten lets childcare students compare these approaches with their own country’s system, which is exactly the kind of learning Erasmus+ VET mobility is designed for.
Typical learning outcomes include planning and running age-appropriate activities, observation and documentation of children’s development, safety and hygiene routines, communication with children in a multilingual setting, and working as part of an educational team.
Child safeguarding: every student must provide a criminal-record certificate before the placement starts, and is always supervised by a qualified member of staff at the host centre.
Accompanying teachers and early-years educators can combine the trip with a Teachers Academy course, such as Creative Pedagogy or Inclusive Education.

Not to start. Students work alongside Portuguese educators, and many of our host centres are bilingual or international, or offer English activities. Students who learn a few Portuguese songs and phrases settle in much faster, and we help with that on the orientation day.
Mostly children aged 3 to 6 in kindergarten (jardim de infância), and school-age children in after-school and language centres. Placements with babies and toddlers (creche) depend on availability.
