Everything you need to know about Erasmus+ KA1 teacher mobility — from eligibility to certification.
The Erasmus+ programme gives teachers, trainers and school staff a fully funded opportunity to develop professionally through training abroad. Here is how the system works — and why thousands of European educators choose Lisbon every year.
Teacher mobility is a professional development initiative funded by the European Union through Key Action 1 (KA1) — also called the Learning Mobility of Individuals programme. Schools with Erasmus accreditation or an approved KA1 project can send their staff abroad for structured training, job shadowing or teaching assignments.
The programme is open to a wide range of education professionals, including:
Organised training delivered by certified providers. Topics range from AI in Education to Inclusive Teaching and Wellbeing.
Observe educational practices in institutions abroad — exchange methodologies and strengthen international collaboration.
Teach temporarily in a partner school in another European country, sharing expertise across borders.
Study visits to institutions, organisations and educational settings to gain international perspective.
Depending on the approved project budget and distance bands, Erasmus+ funding typically covers:

Funding conditions vary according to project type, the number of participants and the distance band between your country and the destination. Schools should calculate costs carefully at application stage.
"For many teachers, mobility in Lisbon becomes both a professional and personal transformation — one that resonates in the classroom long after they return home."
Lisbon has become one of Europe's most sought-after Erasmus destinations for good reason. Teachers are drawn by the city's mild climate, safety record, and rich cultural environment — but also by the quality and variety of training courses available here.
Participants do not simply return home and move on. The Erasmus+ programme places significant value on dissemination — sharing results with colleagues and applying new competencies in the classroom. After completing a mobility, participants typically receive:
Schools are encouraged to organise internal dissemination events, publish results on eTwinning or Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, and integrate acquired skills into their school development plan.
Casa da Educação is a DGERT-certified Erasmus+ training provider based in Lisbon. We have supported thousands of European teachers since 2012.
